MABALACAT CITY – The Mabalacat City Government (MCG) under the leadership of Mayor Crisostomo Garbo expressed high hopes that Mabalaqueños could have an unfettered holiday season as COVID-19 figures in this component city show better results. Latest report from the Mabalacat City COVID-19 Response Integrated System (CRIS) shows that there are more recoveries than new active cases and deaths in most days for the month of September.
From July’s 270 total active cases, COVID-19 infections rose to 629 in the month of August. Meanwhile, recent numbers posted a 53.24% decrease or a total of 294 cases as September ends. Available data has also shown decline in daily active cases from a range of 40 to 60 infections in mid-September to an average of 22 in the last few weeks of the month. It is also in the month of September when the Mabalacat City Government recorded some of its highest single-day recoveries with 87 in September 3, 97 in September 4, 92 in September 23, and 75 in September 27.
This is despite World Health Organization’s (WHO) pronouncement on August 31, 2021 that the highly-transmissible delta variant is now the dominant COVID-19 variant in the Philippines. In the midst of a better COVID-19 situation in the city, Mayor Garbo urged his fellow Mabalaqueños to not be complacent by continuing to observe the minimum health standards prescribed by the national government. He also urged the citizenry to get vaccinated.
Garbo, who finished a medical degree, formed the MCG’s compendium of Vaccination Programs for healthcare workers, senior citizens, persons with comorbidities, OFWs, economic frontliners (BPOs, small-medium scale businesses, and tourism), transportation sector, and the general public.
Just recently, the mayor ordered the vaccination of inmates against COVID-19 who are detained at the Angeles City District Jail. These pandemic initiatives were cited by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) during the agency’s Appreciation Program for Frontline Government Workers last September 27, 2021.
As of this writing, more than 210,000 Mabalaqueños have already been inoculated against the dreaded disease.
